The climate of Wales declined in the post-Roman period as wetter stormier conditions set in. The wetter weather and increased grazing pressure in the uplands resulted in heather moorland being replaced by bog vegetation.
The main impact of this period on the area of the Geopark was the proliferation of small churches as Christianity spread. These buildings were subsequently modified during the Norman Conquest.
